History

Keyano College first opened as the “Alberta Vocational Centre” in 1965, with its main campus in Fort McMurray. The first class offered was welding, but over the years many programs and services have been added. The institution closed for several years and reopened in 1975 with its current name, “Keyano College”. As of 1978, it became a publicly funded university. The college offers certificates, diplomas and bachelor’s degrees. In 2011, a second campus was opened in Fort Chipewyan.

Life Off-Campus

Located in northern Alberta, Keyano College’s campuses offer a natural environment scenery at a close distance from their locations. Activities popular among students are visiting the local natural parks to enjoy the amazing displays of the Northern Lights from October to March; or the traditional annual fests like the Summer End Festival, the Taste of Fort McMurray Festival, Winter Play Festival or the Metis Fest.
